Why AI Will Raise the Value of Exceptional Startup Talent

Morning beehiivcommunity!
This newsletter tackles the dilemma, “How do I know what I don’t know?” with pointed predictions, practical takeaways, and curated NYC events to help founders and CFOs expand options and build resilience.
AI Won’t Replace the Talent Behind Startup Growth
“There is always a very fine line between success and failure. Just one ingredient can make the difference.” — Andrew Lloyd Webber
AI can make startups faster, leaner, and more capable. But as customers expect quicker and more tailored solutions, the edge will go to companies that pair AI with employees who understand both the tools and the human needs they serve.
The goal is to invest effectively in people who can apply AI and automation to increase revenue or improve operating efficiency. Combine AI-enabled efficiency with exceptional human judgment, and your company wins.

Exit Ready | October 14
Early Moves for Better Outcomes
An exit is rarely won or lost once the formal process begins.
The strongest outcomes are often shaped years earlier, through clean financial reporting, disciplined forecasting, scalable operations, thoughtful risk management, and a growth story that excites buyers, investors, and strategic partners.
Join us on October 14, from 6:00–8:00 PM in Midtown Manhattan to explore the finance, legal, and operational foundations that reduce friction in your future processes, and the decisions that strengthen leverage to support better outcomes.
You’ll leave with real examples of what moved multiples, what created avoidable complications, and how to structure incentives, improve equity education, and keep talent engaged through an exit.
The panelists include:
Joe Manganelli, Chief Revenue Officer at Amalgam, and Founder & CEO of Calculate, which was acquired
Andrew Ritter, M&A Partner at Wiggin and Dana
Rachael Methal, CFO at Synergy Pet Group
Whether an exit is near or still years away, preparation expands your options and gives you more control when opportunity arrives.

Judgment Is Often Projection
“People judge another according to their feelings. It is the miser who sees others enticed by money, the lustful who see others obsessed by desire.”
— Irène Némirovsky
Founders are constantly interpreting others’ decisions. But our ambitions, fears, pressures, and experiences can distort our perceptions. An investor’s tough questions can feel like rejection, and an employee’s disagreement can seem like disengagement.
Before you assume someone else’s motivations, pause long enough to separate the facts from the story you’re attaching to them. Ask yourself: What do I know? What am I inferring? What evidence would change my mind?
Then ask the other person to clarify their perspective. You may be pleasantly surprised to find that their intentions were collaborative and well-meaning.
That small habit (pause, then ask) can lead to better conversations, clearer decisions, and fewer unnecessary reactions.
Your Startup’s Real Constraint May Be What You Haven’t Faced Yet
Most startups slow down when critical gaps stay invisible: unclear priorities, weak metrics, disconnected teams, or decisions made without financial and operational insight.
Build Scale Grow has spent years in the finance and operations seat, so we know where those gaps hide. We make those constraints visible and fix them, building on what works: clear priorities, real metrics, aligned teams, and the operating discipline to scale.
