Expert Tips for Startups
Introverted Networking: From Surviving to Thriving
Most introverts struggle with networking, not because of a lack of skill, but because of energy. Without a system, events feel draining and unproductive.
Prepare – Be selective. Choose smaller, curated events where real conversations happen. Research attendees in advance and identify a few people you want to meet. Arriving early can help you ease in and create space for one-on-one interactions.
Engage – Clarity builds confidence. Rehearse how you explain what you do and why it matters. Then shift focus outward. Ask thoughtful, open-ended questions like: “What’s been most exciting for you lately?” or “What are you focused on right now?”
Follow Up – Most value is created after the event. Within two days, follow up with intention. Reference something specific that resonated with both of you, suggest a next step, and/or share something useful.
Networking becomes far more effective with some planning and structure.
