Embracing Meetings in the Age of Time-Hacking

As startup leaders, we’re often told by "thought leaders" and "business coaches" to guard our time and have fewer meetings. I couldn't disagree more.

Every meeting is an opportunity. I've repeatedly discovered new perspectives, met unexpected client prospects, and gained valuable feedback and fresh market insights from meetings that others might dismiss as "wasteful."

When building something meaningful, you should actively seek perspectives outside your usual domain. There are no bad meetings.

5 Minutes to Change

If you're not actively pursuing your own vision, you're likely following someone else's priorities. Let's focus on one key point:

Meetings. Review your recurring meetings quarterly by asking three questions:

  1. Is the purpose and outcome clear?

  2. Are you adding value for others?

  3. Are you learning?

If you answer "no" to all three, then either improve these meetings or stop attending.
